Anthropic in talks with chip startup MatX to accelerate AI chip design efforts, sources say

AI lab Anthropic has discussed acquiring or partnering with chip startup MatX for approximately $7 billion to speed up its development of custom hardware for its rapidly expanding AI business. MatX, founded by former Google TPU engineers, is now seeking new capital at a valuation of about $4 billion. Anthropic aims to reduce its reliance on Nvidia chips and expand its in-house silicon team to design custom chips for its Claude AI models.
