Sony raises its annual profit forecast after reporting a 45% increase in second-quarter operating profit, largely driven by the success of a new Spider-Man movie.
The Japanese entertainment conglomerate posted an operating profit of ¥622 billion ($4 billion) for the quarter. The company's full-year profit outlook was subsequently raised by 9%, surpassing analyst expectations, primarily due to strong performance in its movie and games divisions. Revenue in Sony's film division alone increased by 48% year-on-year in the second quarter.
