Woman Randomly Stabs Two, Kills One, Before Being Fatally Shot by Police in Times Square

A woman randomly stabbed two individuals in New York City's Times Square, resulting in one fatality, before she was fatally shot by police. The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. next to a New York Police Department substation, a heavily touristed area. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated the 49-year-old woman, who had a documented mental health history, pulled two knives from a shopping bag and attacked a 68-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation before using a Taser, which was ineffective, leading to the fatal shooting. The NYPD temporarily closed part of 7th Avenue as a large law enforcement presence worked the scene.
