Federal Student Loan Discharges Advance for Thousands of Borrowers

Approximately 30,000 federal student loan borrowers are receiving notifications regarding loan discharges as part of the Sweet v. McMahon settlement. This relief applies to post-class applicants who submitted Borrower Defense applications between June and November 2022. The agreement includes full loan discharge, refunds, and credit adjustments, despite an appeal from the Education Department.
