Federal Student Loan Program to See Eligibility and Parent PLUS Limit Adjustments

Starting with the 2026-2027 academic year, federal student loan programs will undergo significant revisions. Full Federal Direct Loan eligibility will now require 12 credits, with reduced amounts for students taking 6-11 credits. Additionally, Parent PLUS Loans will be capped at $20,000 annually and $65,000 lifetime per student, though some existing borrowers may retain prior limits.
