Chicago Teachers Union Demands Special Legislative Session to Address $733 Million School Funding Shortfall

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and school support staff are rallying, urging Illinois Governor JB Pritzker to call a special legislative session to find new revenue sources for Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The district faces a projected $733 million budget shortfall for the upcoming year. The CTU warns that without additional funding, drastic measures such as canceling two weeks of school or laying off 1,700 additional staff, beyond previous cuts to special education teachers and other personnel, may be necessary.
