The U.S. Education Department has successfully implemented a new FAFSA identity verification system, launched in April. This system has rejected over 53,000 fraudulent applications, preventing more than $212 million in financial aid from being improperly disbursed. Combined with other measures, the department has now prevented over $2 billion in fraudulent payments.
