Education Department Outlines Transfer of Special Education Functions to HHS

The U.S. Department of Education has provided further details on its initiative to move many responsibilities of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) to the Department of Health and Human Services. While the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) itself will remain, OSERS staff are slated for relocation. Disability advocates have voiced concerns regarding the potential implications for federal oversight and support for special education services.
