DHS Implements Fixed Admission Caps for Foreign Student and Exchange Visas

The Department of Homeland Security has finalized a rule to eliminate the "duration of status" policy for foreign students and exchange visitors. This new regulation sets fixed admission limits, capping nonimmigrant student and exchange visitor visas to the specific program length, not exceeding four years. Those needing more time will be required to apply for an Extension of Stay, involving additional biometric and background checks.
