Michigan Governor Signs Education Budget with Historic Investments in Literacy, Free Pre-K, and College Affordability

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed the fiscal year 2027 (FY27) school aid budget into law, marking historic investments in education. The budget allocates $502 million for student literacy initiatives, including curriculum, teacher training, and tutoring. It also expands free school meals for all public school students, provides free pre-K for all, and makes community college tuition-free through the Michigan Reconnect program, while also lowering the cost of skill certificates and four-year degrees.
