Michigan Governor Signs Education Budget with Increased Funding and Literacy Initiatives

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed the state's education budget into law, marking her eighth and final education budget. The budget includes continued funding for free school meals, free pre-kindergarten, and free community college. It also features a 'historic investment in student literacy' and mandates intensive training in the science of reading, including phonics, for elementary teachers. K-12 schools will receive $19.8 billion in total funding, with a per-pupil funding increase to $10,300.
