North Carolina Eliminates Office of Environmental Education Due to Budget Cuts
North Carolina's new state budget has led to the elimination of the 30-year-old Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs. The program, which has trained over 1,600 environmental educators and supported K-12 science education, was not included in the $34 billion 2025-26 budget signed by Gov. Josh Stein on July 7, 2026.
