U.S. Department of Education Threatens Anne Arundel Schools Over Gender Identity Policy

The U.S. Department of Education's Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO), in partnership with the Department of Justice, is taking enforcement action against Anne Arundel County. This action follows a determination that the district improperly classifies information about a student's "gender identity" as "confidential medical information" that cannot be shared with parents. The SPPO received complaints from parents who discovered the school was secretly assisting their daughter in pretending to be male at school.
