U.S. Department of Education Launches Investigations into Washington and Colorado School Districts Over Parental Rights and Title IX Concerns

The U.S. Department of Education's Student Privacy Policy Office (SPPO) has initiated investigations into Bethel School District in Washington and Denver Public Schools in Colorado. These investigations are for alleged violations of the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) regarding parental rights. Additionally, the Department's Office for Civil Rights (OCR) will assess whether Denver Public Schools violated Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The actions stem from reports of inappropriate material and surveys in schools, and concerns that parents' rights to review materials and opt their children out of certain activities are being disregarded.
