National Science Foundation Launches $47 Million Pilot Program to Integrate Ph.D. Students into Private Industry Research

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced a $47 million pilot initiative aimed at providing doctoral students with practical research experience in private companies. This four-year Ph.D. model will train over 250 students over five years, with universities funding the first year and NSF covering the remainder. Private companies will also match funding for at least one year of dissertation research at their sites. The program seeks to address the growing trend of Ph.D. graduates pursuing careers outside academia.
