Teachers Union Threatens Legal Action Over Pension Cuts for Retired Paraprofessionals

The United Federation of Teachers (UFT) is considering a lawsuit and legislative changes in response to the city's Teachers' Retirement System cutting the disability pensions of over 180 retired school paraprofessionals. The union argues the clawback, stemming from a 20-year-old calculation error, is "inhumane" and unfairly impacts those with some of the lowest salaries in the Education Department.
