KUPPET issues 7-day strike notice ahead of schools reopening in Kenya

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), threatening a nationwide strike starting August 14, 2026. The dispute centers on the promotion of approximately 16,000 teachers who were allegedly excluded from a recent promotion exercise, despite an earlier government commitment to promote 50,000. This action raises concerns about potential disruptions to the third school term and national examinations.
