Kentucky Department of Education Reminds Drivers of New School Bus Safety Law

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is issuing a reminder to drivers about a significant change in state law concerning when to stop for school buses. House Bill 7, enacted during the 2026 legislative session and effective July 15, now requires drivers on highways with four or more lanes to stop for a bus with its stop arm extended and lights flashing, unless the road is divided by an elevated barrier or unpaved median. This change aims to enhance the safety of students who rely on bus transportation for school.
