Philippines Enacts Law to Refine Teaching Strategies, Moving Away from Spiral Progression

Education Secretary Sonny Angara of the Philippines has welcomed the enactment of Republic Act 12322, a new law that grants the Department of Education (DepEd) flexibility in determining pedagogical approaches. The legislation amends the Basic Education Act of 2013 by removing the mandatory "spiral progression" in the curriculum, particularly for Science and Mathematics. This change allows teachers to adopt mastery-based learning or other alternative methods, aiming to ensure students thoroughly grasp foundational concepts before advancing.
