University of Michigan College to Pilot Pass/No Credit Grading for First-Year Students
The University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) will launch a pilot program in Fall 2027, giving first-year students pass/no credit grades for their initial semester. While students receive feedback, these grades won't affect GPAs or external transcripts. This initiative aims to ease student transition, reduce mental health stress, encourage academic exploration, and foster collaboration by de-emphasizing competitive grading.
