Some Private Schools See Rapid Growth Amid Launch of Texas Education Freedom Accounts

Texas has launched its Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program for the 2026-2027 school year, allocating $1 billion in taxpayer money to fund private school expenses for eligible families. This initiative, also known as school vouchers, has led to rapid growth in some North Texas private schools, with one diocese reporting 400-600 new students. Over 85,000 students are expected to benefit from TEFA aid, making it the third-largest education savings account program in the U.S.
