New Law to Replace Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) in Malaysia, Aiming for Higher Education Reform

Malaysia's Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, announced a new comprehensive legislative framework to replace the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU). This reform, outlined in the Malaysia Higher Education Plan (RPTM) 2026-2035, seeks to strengthen institutional autonomy, academic freedom, and student voice while preserving governance and accountability across higher education institutions.
