Massachusetts to Provide No-Cost Early Literacy Tutoring to 338 Schools

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has announced a new initiative for the 2026-27 school year, providing no-cost, high-impact early literacy tutoring to 338 schools across 102 school districts, charter schools, and collaboratives. The Fiscal Year 2027 state budget includes $20 million to support this program, which aims to offer at least 8,485 tutoring seats for students in kindergarten through third grade, prioritizing first-grade students with the greatest need in foundational reading skills. The initiative also includes a new BOOST pilot to study different tutoring approaches.
