Common App Reports Strong Demand for Higher Education with Increases in Applicants, Especially First-Generation and Low-Income Students

Preliminary data from the Common App for the current fall application cycle indicates a 4% increase in distinct first-year applicants and a 7% increase in total applications compared to the same point last year. Notably, first-generation applicants are up 9%, and growth among applicants from low- and middle-income communities continues to outpace their peers. Black or African American applicants and those identifying as Two or More Races are also seeing the fastest growth.
