U.S. Department of Education Issues Multiple Federal Student Aid and Institutional Reporting Updates for Higher Education

The U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Officers (NASFAA) announced several key updates for higher education institutions. These include temporary changes to professional student loan limits based on a federal court order, new guidance on the transition from Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment (FVT/GE) reporting to the Student Tuition and Transparency System (STATS) framework, and formal guidance on new Schedule of Reductions requirements for Direct Loan borrowers. Additionally, there will be a transition of Federal Perkins Loan servicing from ECSI to GCR Servicing by December 1, 2026, and an invitation for stakeholder input on Federal Student Aid's Fiscal Year 2026–30 Draft Strategic Plan.
