Accreditation Council to Vote on Repealing Diversity Standard Amid U.S. Department of Education Scrutiny

The Accreditation Council, which operates independently within the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, is observing a 30-day waiting period before voting on September 8, 2026, to repeal Standard 206, a diversity and inclusion standard. This comes as the U.S. Department of Education issued a report in August arguing the Accreditation Council is not in compliance with federal regulations, and the DOE will ultimately decide on the Council's authority to accredit.
