Report reveals disparities in K-12 student retention rates, with Black boys held back at higher rates

A new report highlights significant disparities in K-12 student retention rates across the U.S., showing that boys are more likely to repeat a grade than girls, and Black boys are held back at nearly three times the rate of white boys. Despite an overall decrease in student retention rates over the past decade (2011-12 to 2021-22), the gap between Black and white boys has remained consistent.
