New York City Public Schools Implement Moratorium on Generative AI for Pre-K to 8th Grade Students

New York City's public school system, the largest in the U.S., has announced a one-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI tools for pre-K through 8th-grade students, effective for the 2026-27 school year. The policy also includes new screen-time restrictions for younger students and a ban on companion chatbots and AI grading across all grade levels.
