Primary Teachers in Bangladesh Forced to Cover School Expenses as Grants are Slashed

Teachers at government primary schools in Bangladesh are reportedly using their own money to cover routine school expenses due to sharp cuts in allocations under the School Level Improvement Plan (SLIP) fund. With students exempt from examination fees, teachers are struggling to pay for stationery and minor repairs, leading to some schools being unable to meet basic needs. Allocations have significantly decreased, with some schools receiving as little as Tk10,000 this year, down from Tk1 lakh two years ago.
