Microsoft Agrees to Legally Enforceable AI Privacy Protections for Schools with Teachers' Union

Microsoft has reached a legally enforceable agreement with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) to implement ten privacy and safety protections for AI tools used in schools. The agreement prevents Microsoft from training its AI models on student or teacher data (except for narrow safety and security scenarios), prohibits student tracking, and requires human oversight for AI-driven decisions in educational settings. These protections will be available to school districts starting November 1.
