Iowa Public Universities Seek $2 Million Increases in State General Education Funds

The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa are each requesting incremental general education funding of $2 million in state appropriations for fiscal year 2028. These proposals, which come after years of no requested raises for general education, will be reviewed by the Iowa Board of Regents next week. The additional funding is primarily aimed at covering inflation-driven costs to prevent these increases from being passed on to students.
