Hundreds of Thousands March in French Public Sector Strike, Including Teachers, Against Austerity Measures

Over 300,000 public sector workers, including 14% of teachers, participated in a one-day strike across France on September 29, 2026. The widespread protests were against Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu's €54 billion austerity package and a public sector wage freeze. High school occupations also occurred, which were met with police crackdowns.
