U.S. Department of Education to Tie Program Funding to Graduates' Post-Graduate Income
The U.S. Department of Education has introduced the Student Tuition and Transparency System and Earnings Accountability rule, which will link federal funding for degree programs to the post-graduate income of their alumni. Undergraduate programs must demonstrate that their graduates earn more than high school diploma holders, while graduate programs must show their alumni earn more than typical bachelor's degree holders. Failure to meet these benchmarks could result in the loss of eligibility for federal financial aid programs, including Pell Grants.
