Montgomery County Public Schools Considers Closures Amidst Declining Enrollment

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland is studying the potential closure and consolidation of elementary and middle schools due to the largest drop in enrollment in over 40 years, excluding the 2020-21 school year. The district attributes the decline to falling birth rates and demographic shifts, with potential closures aiming to save millions in operational costs.
