Universal Music Group Moves to Dismiss Musicians' Lawsuit Over AI Licensing to Udio

Universal Music Group (UMG) has filed a motion in a New York federal court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the American Federation of Musicians. The union alleges that UMG's licensing of union members' recordings to Udio for generative AI training constitutes a new use requiring compensation under their collective bargaining agreement. UMG argues the agreement does not specify a payment rate for AI training.
