Foreign Investors Buy Record Amounts of Canadian Government Debt

Foreign investors purchased a record $27.7 billion (US$19.5 billion) in Canadian federal bonds in April, increasing their share of outstanding bonds to an all-time high of 43%. This broadens the investor base and helps the Canadian government fund large bond programs without significantly raising borrowing costs.
