Renewable Sources Accounted for 45.5% of EU Electricity Production in Q1 2026, Eurostat Reports
Renewable sources generated 45.5% of the electricity in the European Union during the first quarter of 2026, an increase from 42.7% in the same period of 2025. Wind energy was the primary renewable source, contributing 44.9% of the total renewable electricity, followed by hydropower at 28.0% and solar energy at 17.3%. Denmark, Portugal, and Lithuania led the EU in the share of electricity from renewable sources.
