ECB Selects 36 Payment Service Providers for Digital Euro Pilot Program

The European Central Bank has chosen 36 payment service providers from across the euro area to participate in a pilot exercise for the digital euro. This initiative is critical for testing the digital currency's technical functionality, operational processes, and user experience, supporting the ongoing preparatory work for its potential issuance. The pilot is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2027 and run for 12 months.
