ECB Names Payment Providers for Digital Euro Pilot

The European Central Bank has selected 36 payment service providers to participate in a 12-month pilot program for the digital euro. This initiative, scheduled to begin in late 2027, will test the technical and operational functionalities necessary for the potential launch of a central bank digital currency. The chosen providers, representing various business models and regions, will help evaluate the distribution and merchant acceptance aspects of the digital euro.
