U.S. Q1 2026 GDP Revised Up, Current Account Deficit Widens, and May Personal Income and Trade Deficit Increase
The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported several key economic indicators today. Real gross domestic product (GDP) for the first quarter of 2026 increased at an annual rate of 2.1 percent, a revision from previous estimates. The U.S. current-account deficit widened by $5.8 billion to $226.8 billion in the first quarter of 2026. Personal income saw a 0.7 percent increase in May 2026, while the U.S. goods and services trade deficit also increased to $77.6 billion in May. Additionally, the U.S. direct investment abroad position rose by $438.1 billion to $7.14 trillion at the end of 2025.
