South Korea's current account surplus hit an unprecedented high of $49.73 billion in June, surpassing the previous record of $38.61 billion in May, according to data released by the Bank of Korea. This surge is primarily attributed to a booming semiconductor export market, marking 38 consecutive months of surplus since May 2023. The cumulative surplus for the first half of 2026 also reached an all-time high of $191.01 billion.
