The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) absorbed over Rs 6.02 lakh crore from the banking system through two variable rate reverse repo (VRRR) auctions on Friday, September 4, 2026. This action was taken to manage a record-high surplus liquidity, estimated at around Rs 10.32 lakh crore as of September 3, driven by strong inflows from the special FCNR(B) deposit scheme and government spending. The central bank accepted bids worth Rs 5,41,975 crore in a three-day VRRR auction and an additional Rs 60,419 crore in another three-day VRRR auction, both at a cut-off rate of 5.24 percent.
