U.S. August Jobs Report Exceeds Forecasts, Boosting Odds of Fed Rate Hike
The U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in August, significantly surpassing the forecast of 53,000 new jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This strong labor market data, coupled with upward revisions to June and July figures, has increased investor expectations for a Federal Reserve interest rate hike. The CME Group's FedWatch tool showed the odds of a September rate hike rising to 60.4% on Friday, up from 50-50 earlier in the week. The Federal Reserve is now expected to focus heavily on the upcoming inflation report on September 11 ahead of its FOMC meeting.
