China Injects 300 Billion Yuan into State-Owned Financial Institutions to Bolster System
China is undertaking its largest recapitalization of domestic financial institutions in nearly two decades, injecting 300 billion yuan (approximately $45 billion) into its major state-owned banks and insurers. This move, which includes recipients like Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Agricultural Bank of China, aims to reinforce the financial system's stability and maintain lending capacity amidst a slowing economic growth. The Ministry of Finance will issue special treasury bonds for this purpose, adding to 500 billion yuan of government injections since early 2025.
