S&P Dow Jones Indices Loosens Canadian Index Inclusion Rules
S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI) announced changes to the eligibility criteria for S&P/TSX Canadian Indices, potentially allowing major copper producer Anglo-Teck to be included. Previously, only Toronto Stock Exchange-listed companies domiciled or incorporated in Canada were eligible. Under the new rules, foreign issuers listed on the TSX with a material and substantive connection to Canada could qualify. This change follows a consultation with market participants launched in July and is planned for implementation on December 21, 2026.
