Central Bank of Iraq Increases Housing Loan Allocations to 3 Trillion Dinars
The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) has expanded its financial allocations for the national housing sector, raising the designated lending portfolio to three trillion Iraqi dinars (approximately $1.97 billion). This initiative aims to address the high volume of citizen applications for purchasing apartments and residential units in organized housing complexes across Iraqi governorates. The decision, enacted under CBI Law No. 56 of 2004, triples the previous funding ceiling from one trillion dinars, maintaining existing operational terms and credit conditions. This liquidity injection is expected to expand mortgage-backed real estate credit, stimulate the domestic construction industry, and help bridge the housing deficit by enabling middle-income citizens to secure homeownership.
