CAR T-cell therapy enables kidney transplants for challenging cases in clinical trial.

A pioneering Phase 1 clinical trial has successfully utilized CAR T-cell therapy, originally developed for blood cancer, to facilitate kidney transplants in patients previously deemed difficult to match. Researchers at NYU Langone Health and the University of Pennsylvania treated three individuals with end-stage kidney disease who had harmful antibodies. The therapy significantly reduced these immune antibody levels, making transplantation a viable option for them.
