Ebola Outbreak in Congo Continues to Pose Significant Public Health Challenge

The ongoing Ebola outbreak, caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, in Congo's eastern province of Ituri continues to be a critical public health emergency, with over 500 confirmed cases and nearly 100 deaths. Local authorities are implementing strict measures, including limiting public gatherings and enforcing social distancing, to slow the spread. The World Health Organization (WHO) and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) launched a joint six-month response plan on June 5, aiming to raise US$518 million to support affected countries.
