Second Screwworm Infection Identified in Texas

Federal authorities have confirmed a second instance of New World screwworm in a calf within Zavala County, Texas. This new detection occurred just over five miles from the initial reported infection. The parasitic larvae pose a significant danger to various animals and, rarely, to humans, by burrowing into living tissue and causing severe wounds, prompting concerns about a potential outbreak.
