Health taxes in Americas insufficient to reduce harmful consumption, PAHO states.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has published reports indicating that current health taxes on alcohol and sugary drinks in the Americas are not high enough to effectively decrease consumption. The region reportedly has some of the highest global consumption rates for these products. This suggests a challenge in preventing noncommunicable diseases through current fiscal policies.
